Abstract: A coaxial slow-wave structure with corrugated inner conductor is investigated to solve the problem of the mode competition resulting from increasing power capacity of backward wave oscillator. The cold dispersion equation of TM0n mode of the structure is derived. The dispersion characters of the structure are computed numerically, analyzed and compared with that of sinusoidal cylindrical wave guide. The results show that the mode competition is much improved with the suggested new structure.
