Abstract: The thesis introduces the research background and some technical parameters of the route lookup algorithm, and describes some basic algorithms and their pros and cons. Then it presents a fast route lookup algorithm based hardware, six-step route lookup algorithm and its hardware implementation, and the result of its simulation shows it furnishes 50×106 routing lookups/s.
