Abstract: In this paper, a discussion of research on IP over WDM networks directly is provided. The network structure including optical add/drop multiplexer and optical cross-connect is described. The physical and logical structures are presented with an example. The frame structure, routing and assignment of wavelength, and network survivability are discussed.
