Abstract: It is proved in this paper that the periodic extension matches the structure of Daub filter better than the symmetric extension when using the filter in wavelet image coding. Then, the statistical property of wavelet coefficients and runlength probability are analyzed. Finally high compression ratio and high signal-to-noise ratio in image coding are achieved based on above analysis.
